Stormbreaker is the shortest complete watch order on the site: it does not exist before 2018 and it appears in exactly three films. It is also the only MCU weapon whose forging is a full act of a movie — Thor holds a dying star open with his body to make it, and Groot supplies the handle. Three entries, roughly seven hours, and you have the whole life of the axe that came closest to killing Thanos.

  1. Avengers: Infinity War

    Thor, Rocket and Groot go to Nidavellir, where Eitri explains the mould has been idle since Thanos killed the dwarves. Thor reopens the neutron star to melt the uru, Groot severs his own arm to make the handle, and the finished axe summons the Bifrost into Wakanda and puts a blade in Thanos's chest — aimed a foot too low.

    Thor fights with Stormbreaker and Mjolnir at once against 2014 Thanos, then loses the axe to him — Thanos is about to drive it through Thor's chest when Steve Rogers catches Mjolnir and intervenes.

    The film treats the axe as a jealous ex: it sulks whenever Mjolnir is nearby and Thor has to reassure it out loud. Thor uses it to cut the way to Eternity, and in the final scene it belongs to Love, Gorr's daughter, while Thor carries Mjolnir.
