The Mind Stone

also known as Loki's Sceptre · The Scepter · Vision's Stone

From Loki's sceptre to Vision's forehead to Wanda's grief — one yellow stone.

10 entries 6 films 4 episodes 17h 33m

The Mind Stone is the only Infinity Stone that spends years hidden inside another object: Thanos gives it to Loki sealed in a sceptre, and nobody in the MCU works out what it is until Ultron already exists. It then stops being a weapon and becomes a person, powering Vision until Thanos tears it out of his skull. The run finishes in WandaVision, which goes back and reveals the stone had also been quietly rewriting Wanda Maximoff since 2015.

  1. The Avengers

    Film · 2012143m

Thanos and the Other equip Loki with the sceptre, which conceals the Mind Stone in its blue gem. Loki uses it to enthrall Clint Barton and Erik Selvig with a touch to the chest, and after the Battle of New York the sceptre is left behind on Earth in what everyone assumes is S.H.I.E.L.D. custody.

    Film · 2014136m

The mid-credits scene reveals where the sceptre actually went: HYDRA has it, and Baron von Strucker is using the stone in a Sokovian castle to experiment on Wanda and Pietro Maximoff, the only two volunteers who survived.

  3. Avengers: Age of Ultron

    Film · 2015141m

The Avengers take the sceptre back from Strucker, Tony and Bruce probe the stone and find a consciousness inside it, and Ultron comes out of that. Ultron then cracks the sceptre open to set the bare stone into a synthetic body — which the Avengers hijack, making it Vision's forehead.

  4. Captain America: Civil War

    Film · 2016147m

The stone is now permanently embedded in a living Avenger, and the film treats it as a liability: Vision's forehead beam is his primary weapon, Tony argues Vision should be kept out of the fight, and Wanda accidentally reveals she can suppress him.

  5. Avengers: Infinity War

    Film · 2018149m

The whole Wakanda plot exists to get the stone out of Vision's head safely. Shuri nearly succeeds, Wanda destroys the stone and Vision herself, and Thanos simply rewinds the moment with the Time Stone and pulls it out anyway — killing Vision twice in five minutes.

  6. Avengers: Endgame

    Film · 2019181m

The 2012 leg of the time heist recovers the sceptre, not the loose stone: Steve poses as a HYDRA agent and talks a S.H.I.E.L.D. elevator full of infiltrators into handing it over with a whispered "Hail HYDRA." He returns the sceptre to that exact moment in 2012 at the end.

  7. Filmed Before a Live Studio Audience

    WandaVision · S1 E1 · 202130mcameo

Inside the Hex, Vision is alive again with a Mind Stone glowing in his forehead — a construct of Wanda's, since the real stone was destroyed in 2018. Worth one episode to see the stone "back," and it stays that way for the sitcom stretch of the series.

  8. Previously On

    WandaVision · S1 E8 · 202146m

The single most important retcon in the stone's history. A flashback to Strucker's Sokovian lab shows Wanda volunteering to touch the exposed Mind Stone, surviving where every other subject died, and glimpsing a silhouette of the Scarlet Witch — the stone amplified power she already had rather than granting it.

  9. The Series Finale

    WandaVision · S1 E9 · 202150m

The stone's absence is the point. S.W.O.R.D.'s rebuilt White Vision has no stone and no memories, Wanda's Hex-Vision dissolves with the barrier, and the two Visions settle the argument with philosophy instead of a fight.

  10. What If... Ultron Won?

    What If...? · S1 E8 · 202130m

An alternate 2015 where Ultron wins: he gets the synthetic body and then collects all six stones, Mind Stone included, and starts erasing universes. Not the sacred timeline, but it is the only story that shows the stone used by the intelligence that came out of it.
